In celebration of Children’s Book Week, the kindergarten class from the Harris Family Children’s Center visited the Academy Library recently for a tour and story hour. Librarians and staff greeted the seventeen students as they walked up the marble staircase to look up at the stacks of books in Rockefeller Hall. The children took turns guessing how many books were housed on the nine floors of the library building and a lively discussion ensued about why Phillips Exeter students might need all of these books at their disposal. Learning about rare things, science, and studying were some of the ideas that came to mind.
After their mini-tour, the kindergartners and their teachers Ms. Christine Peluso and Ms. Kim Kosow joined several of the library staff and library proctor Emma Clarkson ‘13 in the Kaplanoff Room which houses the library’s children’s literature collection. Librarian Beth Rohloff read from an oversize version of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus one of the many Caldecott winners available at the library. The kindergartners then had the opportunity to draw pictures of themselves with the main character of the book.
Thank you to Ms. Christine Peluso, Ms. Kim Kosow, their kindergarten class, and the library staff and students who made this event enjoyable for all.
